Salut de l'Outaouais!

Bonjour tout le monde,

Since the end of September I have been working as a two-way reporter for The Equity, a weekly out of Shawville, Quebec (just about an hour west of Ottawa on the Quebec side). Things are going pretty good. Writing and shooting makes it hard to do both well, but it pays the bills.

Here's a sampling of some recent work.

Shawville's Simon Clarke is still dreaming of the 60s. A former member of the number one British pop group Freddie and the Dreamers, Clarke continues to perform 60s hits as a solo and duo act. Scott Clouthier, The Equity

Hunter Essiambre has some trouble staying on his skates during his first hockey practice. Scott Clouthier, The Equity

Thorne's Chantal Legault, better known as The Artist C, belts one out during her CD release party in Fort Coulonge. Scott Clouthier, The Equity

Wally and Gerda Bretzlaff of Ladysmith strut their stuff at Oktoberfest Ladysmith. Scott Clouthier, The Equity

Son Steven and granddaughter Aidan say a final farewell to Paul Ryan. Ryan, who was the mayor of Waltham, succumbed to cancer at the age of 61. Scott Clouthier, The Equity

The Pirie family pays their respects to Shawville's veterans and fallen soldiers on Nov. 11, despite rain and freezing temperatures. Scott Clouthier, The Equity

Congrats on the gig Scotty Too Hotty! I must say the funeral picture is a very courageous one.I have often struggled with pushing the shutter at certain times. In the end you always do but it is sometimes a hard choice. you have captured an honest moment. as crazy as it seems funerals, i find, are one of the few times we can see real emotion in people.

Carlos, I happened to be standing beside the two of them when the priest came over and asked if they'd like to lay flowers on the casket. I very quietly and calmly asked if it would be okay if a took some pictures. He hesitated, and then said that I could. If you notice in the background, there's a a few people who weren't aware of that and gave me a few odd looks as I leaned over the casket with my wide. It ran five columns across front this week, so I'll have to see what the reaction is. http://www.theequity.ca/te_page01.htm
