PIKE - recent work from Feb. and March

Been a while since I posted some pics, so here is some daily work from southwest Manitoba.


A suspected shoplifter stuggles as Brandon police officers put hand cuffs on him near the intersection of 10th street and Victoria Avenue in Brandon on Monday Feb. 26, 2007. “Loss prevention staff (from Superstore) chased him down,” Sgt. Marc Alain with the Brandon Police Service said yesterday. “He was taking stuff from the store. They went to stop him and he ran away"


Registered piano technician Mark Cramer installs and settles new strings on a 1959 Baldwin concert grand piano at St. Matthew's Cathedral in Brandon on Friday Feb. 16, 2007. Cramer has been working on the piano for the past nine years, first owned by Brandon University and now St. Matthew’s. To prepare it for its new home, Cramer did more painstaking repairs to produce the desired resonance and warmth from the piano, including removing and re-installing the sound board, hand-building the hammers, removing and reinstalling the strings, and working with a welder to harden the metal plates that keep the strings in place.. "It's an exciting thing for the church", exclaimed Cramer who has been working seven day weeks to ready the piano in time.



Kevon McCarthy, Kevin Martin and Rick Martin, are members of a group of 10 people who will try to break the Guiness World Record for longest curling game, marathon curling, on March 9th at the Wheat City Curling club, seen on Kevin's backyard curling rink in Brandon on Saturday Feb. 17, 2007. The group set the marathon curling record in 2004, 30 hours and seven minutes, but only held the title for one year after it was broken by a group from Scotland in 2005, 33 hours and 10 minutes.

The driver of a mini-van that was struck by a pickup truck carrying a snow mobile, is placed on a stretcher after the fire department used the jaws of life to remove the van's door at the intersection of 1st street and Kirkcaldy Avenue in Brandon on Sunday March 4, 2007. The lone occupant of the mini-van, the driver, an elderly man, need to be removed with the jaws of life and was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

An All Points Electric employee, a provincal government contrator, carries a stop light off the road past the truck driver, after a semi-trailer took a corner too tightly at the intersection of 18th street and Park avenue around 9:30 a.m., knocking down a street and traffic light in Brandon on Friday Feb. 16, 2007. Lights in the intersection were down for the rest of the morning causing at least one other accident that sent two people to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
